Lightroom - Selective Import

During the import process, you can selectively determine whether or not to import individual photos by unchecking the individual radio buttons at the top left of each image thumbnail. The view is exactly the same, regardless of whether you are importing off your hard drive or camera.

You can also deselect the 'All Photos' option at the top left of the preview window. As its name suggests, this deselects every single photo in the import window. You can then select the individual photos that you want to import into Lightroom using the thumbnail radio buttons.
