Lightroom - How To Export My Images

In Lightroom, there is no ‘Save’ or ‘Save As’ option to be found in the File menu, and this often leaves people scratching their heads. Instead, you have to either export your images, which is Lightroom’s equivalent to the Save button, or you can publish them directly to media channels.

The export capability in Lightroom has some pretty useful features, as you can set up custom presets supporting different workflows e.g: Export both a high resolution & low-resolution copy for a client Export a medium resolution copy for social media.

These presets are then available to you in the export dialogue window, so that once set up, export is pretty much a one-click process.

Step 1 - Firstly, you need to select which photo(s) you want to export by selecting them from your Catalogs (or Folders).

Step 2 - There are 3 ways to open up the Export Window. You can either:

1) From the main menu select ‘File’ - ‘Export’.

2) Select the short-code SHIFT COMMAND E on a MAC (SHIFT CONTROL E on Windows)

3) From the Library Module left-hand panel, there is a big ‘Export Button’, select that.

Whichever method you use, you will be presented with an Export Panel with a number of export options including, where to export your files, what format to export, naming conventions, etc.
