Automatically Fix Tonal Balance

Lightroom does a pretty good job of automatically analyzing your image and then setting each of the tonal adjustments to what it thinks are the optimal settings.

You can either adjust all the sliders in the tone panel at once by selecting the Auto function, or you can do each one individually, by pressing the SHIFT key and then double-clicking each of the  Exposure, Contrast, Highlights, Shadows, Whites, and Blacks sliders.

This second mode is great if you say; only want Lightroom to set the Black & White points, and then do the rest yourself.

Whichever method you use, you are free to fine-tune the results manually if you need to. Using the Auto mode is usually a good starting point, especially if you want to quickly set the tonal range on a bunch of images that you are deciding whether to keep or not.
